Bring Your Build To Life with 3D Design

Producing 3D designs, visualisations and walk throughs are a great way to explore what’s possible and what can be achieved before construction work begins. The technology for producing 3D designs has been around for a while, I was first introduced to this back in 2005 and it’s a great way to bring flat 2D drawings to life!

Your Home Made Perfect

In the new TV series ‘Your Home Made Perfect’ homeowners go on a journey using virtual reality in order to show them possible design solutions and they are often blown away with the use of this technology.

The benefit to the homeowner of producing designs in 3D is that they are much easier to read and understand than conventional 2D drawings and plans. It’s also much easier to understand and visualise the shape, form, material palette and how the design integrates with the existing house and site. The output allows everyone involved in the design and build process a much clearer idea of the intended design.

Planning Permission

The 3D models that are created are used for the production of 2D drawings, they also provide an easier explanation of the proposed works. In my experience they certainly help with visualising how the final design will look and it’s much easier and quicker to understand the design intent of any project which can be really beneficially for helping gain planning permission. The designs can be easily modified and adjusted allowing alternative designs to be explored.

The expectation of life-like rendering and photo realistic imagery is constantly improving and by creating a 3D model you’re able to fully visualise how your project will look. It will also help to show clearly and accurately, how different colours, designs, materials and shapes will impact, change and improve the design experience.

2D V’s 3D Designs

By producing a 3D model for your project, all parties involved in the design and construction process will easily be able to understand and interpret the design intent. The 3D design greatly improves communication and understanding, leaving you in no doubt as to what has been designed. I’ve found that customers who struggled to visualise and review 2D drawings could easily understand and see what the design would look like in 3D, giving them complete peace of mind.

From a very simple model, all the way up to a highly complex model, both can be achieved using a variety of different software. We have been producing a variety of different model types and outputs for our customers, from a simple line illustration to a complicated fully rendered model. The results help towards creating a ‘Better by Design’ finished project and the homeowner has more confidence that their final choice of design can be built.
